Nottingham Forest beat Liverpool with Hudson-Odoi’s winning goal

Callum Hudson-Odoi’s goal continues Nottingham Forest’s unbeaten run in the Premier League. Nottingham Forest win ended Arne Slot’s perfect start as Liverpool’s boss.

Callum Hudson-Odoi came in as a substitute in the Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool game. He cut in from the left and curled in an inch-perfect shot into the far bottom corner. Liverpool’s keeper, Alisson could not get his hands on the ball as it went into the net.

This was Nottingham’s first win at Anfield in any competition since 1969.

The home side’s confidence was high at Anfield coming into the game after three wins out of three without conceding a goal. Also, The Reds had better chances especially in the first half, but they couldn’t convert them into goals.

Liverpool went closest to scoring just before the break. Luis Diaz chased a lost cause, cut in and hammered a shot against the near post from a tight angle.

Forest’s keeper pulled off a good save to keep out Alexis Mac Allister header. In another incident, he got lucky when he almost spilled Diaz’s effort into his own net.

However, in the second half, Forest created more chances. Morgan Gibbs-White and Anthony Elanga had their shots off target before Hudson-Odoi’s beauty.

The visiting fans were jubilant as they cheered on their team. The Liverpool supporters tried to get their team going, but, the hosts were not able to get any clear chances for an equalizer.

Nottingham Forest moved into the fourth place in the Premier League standings after two wins and two draws. Meanwhile, Liverpool are a point above them and two spots higher on the table.

Nottingham Forest’s Flying Start

Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo deserves huge credit for their start to the season. But, the talk has been on Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot unbeaten start in the EPL. However, Forest had not lost a game as well.

Liverpool’s first-half performance was solid and spectacular as expected from a team of it’s calibre. Forest frustrated The Reds but they did not have a single shot on target.

However, Nuno was brave in the second half, bringing on Hudson-Odoi and Elanga when the temptation might have been to shore things up – and it paid off. Elanga found Hudson-Odoi, who cut inside Conor Bradley before swinging in his sweet shot into the bottom corner.

Meanwhile, Elanga almost doubled their lead when his shot went straight into Alisson’s hands.

But, the solitary goal was enough. They won at Anfield for the first time since the first man – Neil Armstrong, landed on the moon.

What a frustrating day for Liverpool?

Probably, the former Feyenoord boss, Arne Slot knew that it would not be smooth sailing in the best league in the world. However, he had a very good start, including an impressive win over against Man United. Therefore, he seemed a favorite amongst people, and being compared to Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool’s style of football involves patience, passing and a building up. For a while, this seemed like it would bear fruits but they were a bit unlucky. Diaz hit the post, several headers went off target, and Mohamed Salah forced a good save from Sels at his near post.

Slot brought on Bradley, pushing Trent Alexander-Arnold into midfield, and introduced Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez as he tried to find the winner.

But in the end, the defender Bradley was beaten for the only goal of the game.

The hosts had one late chance to level when Virgil van Dijk headed over, but many fans were leaving Anfield before the final whistle went to confirm the end of their unbeaten start.
